Designetics wanted to boost employee morale…so we created a comic book. The result: The Fluid Force, a band of Designetics products that come to life after the last employee heads home for the night.
At the manufacturing plant, the team battles evil-doers—and the occasional desk stapler—making the world safe for fluid applicators and pumps. The key to these exploits? We peppered in actual employee names and work areas into plotlines, so employees could enjoy looking for references in each episode.
To start, we designed the lead characters to resemble applicators and materials used to build Designetics products, and developed storylines that emphasized Designetics’ leadership role in the adhesives industry. Then we scripted each episode—creating some pulse-pounding, action-packed cliff-hangers!—and illustrated each adventure.
Initially integrated into the company’s monthly magazine, The Fluid Force was so well-received it became a regular feature and even a stand-alone comic book. Since then, the superhero team has been featured on coloring pages for children and promotional giveaways, all while still protecting Designetics at night.
